Child birth and pregnancy stop girls from writing BECE
A number of girls who are expected to write the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the Komenda–Edina-Eguafo Abrem District have delivered and some who are pregnant have stopped attending classes.
Mr. Gabriel Gademor, the District Director of Education, has appealed to the girls to attend classes to enable them write their examinations which start on April 11.
Mr. Gademor said since the girls had been registered, they should feel free to go and write the examination.
He was addressing about 72 basic school teachers recruited from the district to give extra classes initiated by Dr. Joseph F. Annan, the Member of Parliament, in collaboration with the District Director of Education for 1,200 final year students in the district.
In an address read on behalf of Dr. Annan, who is also the Deputy Minister of Trade, he commended the teachers for their dedication to duty and appealed to the students to learn hard to enable them pass with good grades.
He said students who perform creditably would be awarded scholarship to Senior High School.
