DOVVSU records 213 cases in the first quarter
A total of 213 cases were recorded by the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Police in Brong Ahafo in the first quarter of the year.
One hundred and fifty six non-maintenance cases, 19 assault cases, 10 theft cases, five abduction cases, four cases each on defilement and exposing a child to danger.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Sampson Agbeko, Regional Coordinator of the Unit, announced this in an interview with Ghana News Agency in Sunyani on Tuesday.
He said three cases each of threat of death, rape, offensive conduct, threat of harm and unlawful removal of a child were recorded.
DSP Agbeko urged parents to be responsible towards their children by providing their needs and monitoring their activities to steer them away from bad peer groups.
Children who walk in the streets half-naked, are rude, incorrigible and have lost all sense of decency and respectability can be attributed to the negligence and their non-maintenance by parents, he said.
DSP Agbeko warned video operators to desist from allowing children less than 18 years to watch violent movies since the police would soon descend on them.
