Algeria condemns campaign to implicate her in mercenary activities in Libya
Algeria on Friday drew attention of the international community to the dangers inherent in the presence at her borders of a terrorism incubator, which would dip abundantly into an open-air arsenal.
A statement issued in Accra by the Algerian Ambassador to Ghana, Mr Larbi Katti, said the call was in view of Algeria’s fundamental interests relating to the maximum security of her borders and to the preservation of stability throughout the region.
This was contained in a communiqué issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Algeria condemning the campaign aimed at implicating that country in alleged sponsoring of mercenary activities in Libya.
It said despite strong categorical rebuttals issued repeatedly by the Algerian authorities, Mr Mustapha Abdeljalil, President of the Libyan Transitional National Council, had chosen to go back on his own words – regarding the denial he made himself to those strange accusations, in an interview with an Algerian daily on March 5, 2011 – and to single out Algeria by implicating it unfairly in alleged mercenary activities in Libya.
The statement said “Such irresponsible fury towards implicating the Algerian authorities at all costs calls out to use in respect of the intentions and motivations of those behind this conspiracy against a country whose wrong has been to refuse to interfere in the war against the deadly dangers of the infiltration of terrorists into the Libyan territory.
“Such infiltration of terrorist elements has unfortunately been corroborated by facts and by objective observations made by high-profile authorities, both civilian and military, from some of the Security Council Member Countries, and by independent analysis carried out by Western intelligence experts.
“Besides, with her conviction that the search of a political solution through dialogue holds primacy and with her commitment to the unfailing ancestral and fraternal links between the Algerian people and the Libyan people in all their components, and with their whole sensitivity, Algeria will keep privileging the option of wisdom by urging all parties involved to cease hostilities immediately in order to preserve the unity and the territorial integrity of this sister country in the face of the serious risks of dislocation and partition staring at it“.
