TUC health walk ends in promoting safety health for workers
As part of activities to mark this year’s May Day, the Trade Union Congress (TUC) on Saturday embarked on health walk for over 300 workers.
Mr Francis Kofi Davoh chairman of the planning committee said, one of the pillars for working was to ensure health and safety and that it was the duty of every worker to attain good health to boost his or her energy towards work.
He noted that the Committee billed the health walk as a prelude to this years May Day celebration hence it would embark on this activity to fulfil the health requirements of a decent worker.
Mr Davoh called on workers to find time to embark on such activities to keep them healthy and sustain them in their working environment saying without health there would be no work.
The participants who came from different National Unions included the Ghana National Association of Teachers, Judicial Workers Association of Ghana, National Association of Graduate Teachers and Ghana Medical Association.
They endured a 10 kilometre walk from the Hall of TUC, through some principal streets of Accra.
According to Kingsley Ofori Nkansah, Chairman of the Media Relations Committee for May Day, the theme for this year May Day was “Decent work for Sustainable Economic Development”.
Mr Nkansah said good health came from the food we eat and sometimes the kind of drinks we take, but quite importantly is the walk we undertake to sustain our health.
