Winneba youth appeal to government to ensure peace during Aboakyer

Leadership of the youth at Kwendrum, a densely populated community in Winneba have appealed to the Government to ensure peace and tranquility prevailed during this year’s celebration of Aboakyer Festival next month.

They contended that government should endeavour to allow Neenyi Ghartey VII, Omanhene of Effutu Traditional Area to play his traditional role in participating in the celebration.

Addressing a press conference at Winneba, at the week-end, a Spokesman for the Leadership said available information indicated that Neenyi Ghartey had been sidelined in the preparation and organisation of this year’s Aboakyer.

“It is the tradition in Effutu State that the Omanhene has the right and power to step on the first catch after the hunting expedition by any of the Asafo Companies- Tuafo or Dentsifo. Any diversion or misapplication of this customary procedure would make the celebration null and void,” he added.

The spokesman said last year’s celebration was without the appropriate pomp and pageantry associated with the festival, because of the absence of the Omanhene and this should not be repeated this year, but allow the celebration in peace without any rancour or bitterness.

He commended the Central Regional Police Command for their positive posture initiated recently to foster the much needed unity among members of the two factions in Tuafo Asafo Company and hoped that they would take steps to collaborate with the Omanhene during this year’s celebration,” he added.
