Amansie Kente Festival to begin
All is now set for the maiden “Amansie Kente Festival” to showcase the ingenuity and sophistication of local kente weavers in the Asante-Bekwai Municipality.
Already, a showroom has opened at Bekwai, where various “kente” products and designs, are on display.
The four-day event timed to coincide with the Easter celebration would officially be launched by the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Mr Joe Osei-Wusu, at Akyeremade on Friday, April 22.
Mr Patrick Adu-Gyamfi, a member of the Planning Committee, told newsmen that the climax would be a grand durbar of chiefs on Sunday.
Other activities lined up include beauty contest sponsored by Coca Cola Bottling Company, football gala and thanksgiving service.
Mr Adu-Gyamfi said the goal was to help attract tourists, and create jobs and wealth for the people, particularly the youth.
He invited all citizens of the area to contribute towards the success of the event.
