GRIDCo explains Accra blackout
The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) says the loss of electricity supply to parts of Accra and its environs on Wednesday night was as a result of “a blast on critical equipment” at the Achimota sub-station.
A statement signed by Mr Albert Quainoo, Head of Public Relations, said the blast took out of service one of the transformers at the sub-station resulting in the loss of supply to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).
“A GRIDCo technical team is working to replace the equipment at the station in order to restore service by the end of the day,” the statement said.
