Ghana’s Asamoah Gyan tops Sunderland’s award list, vies for best player with John Mensah
Ghana’s forward, Asamoah Gyan has topped Sunderland’s end of season awards 2010/2011 as he has been nominated four times in two out of five categories.
According to news on Sunderland’s website, Asamoah Gyan together with country-man John Mensah and other 14 players are contesting for Sunderland’s Best Player of the season, the topmost award.
Gyan’s fiercest competitor will be Danny Welbeck, who is also gunning for the best player, best young player and goal of the season.
Gyan’s goals against Chelsea, Stoke City and Wigan Athletic have all been nominated for the Goal of the Season.
With 30 premier league appearances this season, Gyan has scored ten goals.
Sunderland fans are urged to vote for the various categories.
“Sunderland AFC are inviting you, the fans, to vote across various categories in the club’s 2010-11 End of Season Awards”, the club said.
The five categories are Player of the Season, Young Player of the Season, Goal of the Season, Save of the Season and Team Performance of the Season.
The awards dinner will be held at the Stadium of Light on May 18, 2011.
