Ministry of Women donates items worth GH¢2,100 to Osu Children’s Home
The Ministry of Women and Children’s Affairs (MOWAC) on Friday donated items worth GH¢2,100 to the inmates of Osu Children’s Home.
The items included four bags of rice, two bales of second hand clothes, a box of key soap and four gallons of cooking oil.
Mrs Juliana Azumah-Mensah, the Sector Minister, presenting the items said it was not meant only to respond to the growing needs of the children but also help in their welfare.
She said the Home was faced with challenges, adding: “I have no doubt that the inmates need these items more than before.”
Mrs Azumah-Mensah urged the authorities of the Home to rise above their challenges and not to relent on efforts to provide quality care for the inmates.
She encouraged stakeholders to intensify advocacy and sensitisation activities on good parenting and family values.
Mrs Sharon Abbey, Supervisor of the Home, thanked the Ministry for the kind gesture saying, the items would go along way in meeting the needs of the inmates.
She said the institution was doing its best to provide appropriate health care to the inmates and create a family atmosphere that would foster positive emotional attachment and bonding.
The Home currently has 160 inmates aged between zero to 23 years and made up of 100 boys and 60 girls out of whom 20 need special care.
It has 102 members of staff with 80 regular staff on the government payroll.
