Community raises more than GH¢20,000 to support development

The chiefs and people of Anwanya, near Atwea, in the Sekyere Central District, on Wednesday, bagged over GH¢20,000.00, at a fund-raising durbar in aid of the community’s self-help projects.

The money would be used to provide sanitation facilities and improve the street lights system.

Mr Ebenezer Akuoko-Frimpong, District Chief Executive (DCE), praised them for taking the initiative to improve on their living conditions and assured them of the assembly’s support.

The district assembly, he said, would give everything necessary to assist communities, which takes steps to tackle some of the problems in their areas.

Mr Akuoko-Frimpong used the occasion to underline the importance of education, as a tool for socio-economic progress, and urged parents to make sure they enrolled all their children in school.

The government would, through its interventions, like the capitation grant, free textbooks and school uniforms continue to create the right environment for smooth academic work.

He reminded the people to pay their taxes to the assembly to enable it to generate adequate revenue to support development programmes in the area.

Mr Sekyere Afoakwa, the Presiding Member, said the assembly was engaged in the construction of classrooms for some basic schools.

The assembly member, Mr Opoku Frimpong, urged the people to pull together to give the community the needed face-lift.
