Eastern Region pensioners deny any intended strike action
The Eastern Regional Secretariat of the National Pensioners Association (NPA) has denied a news report that created an impression that members of the Koforidua local branch of the association had resolved to stage a demonstration against the recent increase of GH¢10.03 across board of their salaries.
A statement signed by Mr A.E. Ofori, Regional Secretary of the NPA, said the report by the Ghana News Agency was contrary to the situation on the ground.
“We wish to state that the Koforidua Local branch of the association did not granted any interview to the journalist over the issue at any forum,” it said.
The statement said if even any such deliberation ever took place, it was an informal discussion between the said reporter and the Regional Chairman, Mr Eric Gyimah Twum-Danso, which basically centred on the displeasure of members against the minimal increase of their salaries which they considered had made them worse off.
“According to Mr Twum-Danso, at no point during the interview was any issue raised regarding the intention of members to stage a demonstration as alleged.”
The statement appealed to people regard the publication as unauthorized and without foundation.
