Vice President calls for proper record keeping for research

Vice President John Mahama

Vice President John Dramani Mahama has called on both public and private institutions to develop efficient ways of documenting and keeping records to facilitate future research programmes.

Proper documentation, he added, was also relevant due to the rise in court cases and other forms of litigations throughout the country.

Vice President Mahama made this call when he inaugurated Metrofile Ghana Limited (MGL), a private documentation company in Accra.

Metrofile Ghana Limited which was incorporated on April 19, 2007 and started work 2009 is governed and accredited by the Public Records and Archives Department Act 535 of 1997.

They have also understudied similar companies in the United Kingdom, United States of America, South Africa and Australia to give their staff orientation to serve their clients better.

Vice President Mahama noted that record keeping would become more relevant when the freedom of information bill is passed and called on MGL to set the standards that would attract clients from other African countries and beyond.

He commended the company for taking up an area that others have not developed interest in, adding “That is why in my opinion, MGL has taken up a very credible and laudable business model and deserves to be supported.”

Mr Peter Owusu-Donkor, Managing Director of MGL said the company had a team of professionals who had been trained and gone through police security checks and gave the assurance that they would provide security and confidentiality to institutions and individual records.

“Confidentiality and safety, particularly fire safety underlies the bedrock of our business, we have credible individuals serving on our board and we use one of the best softwares in the whole world,” he added.

Mr Owusu-Donkor said his outfit offered In-house repository services to other organisations and institutions, Off-site repository services and Bespoke services in the Information Technology area and called on both government and private institutions to take advantage of the available facilities.

Ms Joyce Rosalind Aryee, Board Chairman MGL in a speech read on her behalf gave the assurance that the company do serve clients better to become a major record repository in the world.
