GNA to collaborate with Algerian News Agency
Mr Larbi Katti, Algerian Ambassador in Ghana, on Tuesday called for collaboration between the Ghana News Agency (GNA) and the Algerian News Agency as part of steps to improve relations between Ghana and Algeria.
This, he said, would enable his country to expand its scope of information from Anglophone countries as most of its collaborators on the continent were from the Francophone countries.
Ambassador Katti, who was speaking during a courtesy call on the management of the Ghana News Agency in Accra, was full of praise for former President Kwame Nkrumah for initiating the good relations that existed between the two countries.
He expressed regret about the political turmoil in some north African countries such as Tunisia, Egypt and Libya.
Mr Katti attributed the peace being enjoyed in Algeria to some crucial political reforms that took place in 1988, which saw the emergence of press freedom and peaceful conduct of elections.
He noted that although there were pockets of terrorist activities in his country, measures would be put in place to defeat the perpetrators.
Mr Katti praised the African Union for responding to the crisis in Libya by developing a roadmap to peace in that country.
Mr Boakye-Dankwah Boadi, Supervising Chief Editor of GNA, assured the Ambassador of GNA’s readiness to cooperate with the Algerian News Agency so as to “tell the African story the African way”.
He praised Algeria for putting in place the necessary measures that had spared it the turmoil being experienced by its neighbours.
