Parliamentarian advocates human-face in decongestion in Accra Metropolis
Mr Seth Adjei-Baah, Member of Parliament for Nkawkaw, has called on the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) to approach the decongestion exercise in Accra Metropolis with a human-face.
He said effort to rid pavements and streets of hawkers, was laudable but the level of force being employed by the AMA security personnel was wrong and AMA need a more human-face approach in handling the issue.
Mr Adjei-Baah, who is also the National Chairman of Ghana Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GARCCI), made the call at the monthly meeting of the Greater Accra Regional Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Accra.
He said the Chamber was an umbrella body for hawkers and traders supported the decongestion exercise, to ensure congenial atmosphere and decorum in the operation.
Nana Appiagyei Dankawoso, Second Vice Chairman of GARCCI, said the meeting was to address financial and other issues.
He said it would also provide an avenue for members to access facilities at the West African Chamber of Commerce and Industry, to network and grow their businesses.
Nana Dankawoso said the Chamber had collaborated with the Government to establish joint ventures with some foreign partners and companies, and a delegation would participate in the forthcoming tour of Korea and Malaysia from May 23-June 1.
