Police arrest three suspects for child kidnapping
The Western Regional Police Command has arrested three persons for allegedly kidnapping a 14-year old boy, Edward Adjie, at Daboase in the Mpohor Wassa East District of the Western Region.
The suspects; two males and a woman, are Hannah Asakoma (alias Original), Isaac Aidoo and Sampson Anderson.
Confirming the arrest of the kidnappers in an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Sekondi on Monday, the Western Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Chief Inspector Olivia Ewurabena Adiku, said on the May 10, 2011 at about 1700 hours, the suspects went to Daboase and kidnapped Adjie and forcefully pushed him into a Sonta Saloon car with registration number WR 20 N and sped off.
She said when a resident of the town attempted to rescue the boy one of the suspects pulled a sharp knife and threatened to stab anyone who would prevent them from kidnapping the boy.
Chief Inspector Adiku said a report was made to the Daboase Police and the police subsequently relayed the information to the Inchaban Police Barrier post leading to the arrest of the suspects upon arriving at the barrier.
She said when police interrogated the suspects, Hannah Asakoma alleged that Adjie stole her 600 Ghana cedis when he went to Mpohor during the Easter vacation to do galamsey and fled with the money to Daboase to join his parents.
Chief Inspector Adiku said the police were investigating the case and very soon they would be arraigned before court.
