Mining company gives $50,000 to community

Bugudon Company Limited (BCL), a mining company in the Awaham community of the Eastern Region, has presented a cheque for 50,000 dollars to the community for development projects.

Mr Kwame Dzadey Junior, Managing Director of BCL, who presented the cheque, said the money was part of the social responsibility agreement signed with the community and other stakeholders and also marks the beginning of mining operations in the area.

He said the motive for the gesture was to help in the development of community projects such as the Chief’s palace, road construction, schools, hospitals, and other social centres.

He appealed for peace to reign in the community in order for development to take its proper course.

Mr Dzadey Jnr. said the company had put in place measures to reassess its reserve base, which was economically viable and feasible to enable them to reactivate the mining operation.

Nana Pobi Asomaning, Chief of Awaham, who received the cheque on behalf of the community, thanked the company for the gesture and said it was the beginning of better days in the life of the community.

He said he would soon cut the sod for work to begin on the construction of the Chief’s Palace and urged all members of the community to be responsive and supportive in the development of the community.

Nana Wiafe Apenteng, Queen Mother of the community, said the presentation signified a transformation of the area and appealed for peace and unity to reign in the community since that was the only way to achieve development.

The Eastern Regional Coordinating Director, district commanders of Police for Akwatia and Asamankese, officials of the Mineral Commission witnessed the presentation.
