NDC rakes GH¢20,000 from fund-raising

The Techiman North Constituency branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has raised more than GH¢20,000 at a fund-raising ceremony to strengthen and equip the party’s office as part of preparations towards the 2012 general election.

Addressing the teeming supporters and branch executives drawn from 72 electoral areas at Tuobodom in the Brong Ahafo Region, Mr Alex Kofi Kyeremeh, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) asked supporters of the party to propagate and sell the messages and achievements of the party in its two-and-half years in office.

Mr Kyeremeh said within his tenure of office the Assembly had provided the needed infrastructure in the Municipality in the areas of education, health and agriculture.

He said Aworowa and Akrofrom township were benefiting from a counterpart fund of GH¢100,000 for the Small Town Water System project in addition to a scholarship deal for 400 students.

Mr Kyeremeh said the Assembly had also provided the people of Atrensu, Kokroko, Fitri-Brompia and other catchment communities in the area with a chip compound clinic to enable them access health care.

On agriculture, the MCE said farmers in the area would be assisted with an improved farming technology for block farming and urged farmers to form
co-operative groups to benefit from the package.

Mr Abdul Razak Debrah, Tain Constituency Organiser of NDC called on party faithful not to relent in their efforts of drawing members into their fold, saying that would be a way to help the NDC retain power in the 2012 elections.

Mr Daniel Frempah Agboloso, Techiman North Chairman of the NDC and Alhaji Nashiru Techiman, Techiman South Constituency Chairman of the party said as a social democratic party the political body has the grassroots at heart in terms of settling personal scores.

The two chairmen expressed the conviction that NDC would re-capture the Techiman North Constituency parliamentary seat from the New Patriotic Party in the 2012 general election and urged supporters in the area to remain steadfast even in the face of provocation.

Mr Unas Owusu, Deputy Regional Chairman of NDC who presided over the function asked the executives of two constituencies to act as “campaign managers” and work hard for victory in 2012 to retain President John Atta Mills in office.
