Yendi to get irrigation dams for off-season farming
Consultants from Ghana Irrigation Development Authority (GIDA) and Water Resources Commission (WRC) in collaboration with White Volta Basin Authority are exploring ways to rehabilitate dams in the Yendi Municipality for dry season farming.
Mr Issah Zakaria, Municipal Chief Executive who made this known at Kanshegu near Yendi in the Northern Region, said Sunson, Malzeri and Kamshiegu dams were listed for the project, which aimed at offering jobs to the unemployed youth.
He said the consultants had taken measurement for the rehabilitation and expansion of Kamsheigu irrigation Scheme, at the cost of GH¢650,000.
Mr Zakaria noted that the facility had not witnessed rehabilitation during its 42 years of existence.
He said the Assembly was working in collaboration with Ministry of Food and Agriculture to facilitate dry season farming in the area.
He said more than 33 communities would benefit from the project.
The Basin Officer of WRC, Mr Aaron Aduna said the dam would be provided with spill way so that when it overflows its banks water could be discharged to avert flooding.
