Police arrests Military imposter
The Eastern Regional Police Command has arrested one Yakubu Ahenkan, a 45-year-old native of Accra New Town, for fraud and impersonation.
Ahenkan, who claims to be an ex-military captain, was arrested at Asamankese for allegedly recruiting prospective applicants into the Ghana Armed Forces.
A statement from the Regional Police Command in Koforidua on Thursday and signed by Corporal Gideon Boateng, Assistant Public Relations Officer (PRO), indicated that, Ahenkan succeeded in defrauding one Kwadwo Asare of an amount of GH¢150 in May this year.
It said Ahenkan was arrested on June 05 this year upon a tip off and a search on him by the Police revealed a number of birth certificates and School certificates bearing different names.
The statement said Ahenkan, who was put before the Asamankese District Magistrates’ Court on June 08, pleaded guilty with explanation and was remanded into prison custody to re-appear on June 27.
The statement urged the General Public to report to the nearest Military office or Police Station anybody who claims to have been authorized to recruit prospective applicants into the service.
“The Command therefore urges parents to desist from the act of giving money through people for recruitment. Recruitment exercises are solely done administratively”, it concluded.
