Ghanaian student wins 2011 marketing prize in UK

Christopher Agyapong Siaw, a Commonwealth Scholarship student from Ghana, has won the prestigious 2011 marketing prize of the Academy of Marketing in the United Kingdom.

According to a statement on June 10, 2011 from the University of Glamorgan where Christopher Agyapong Siaw is undertaking  a MSc Marketing course, he won the award also known as the “Professor Malcolm McDonald Student Essay Prize” with an essay he wrote entitled: “Real value is defined by the customer, not the supplier.”

“Christopher Agyapong Siaw, a Commonwealth Scholarship student from Ghana who is undertaking the MSc Marketing at Glamorgan Business School, has won the prestigious Professor Malcolm McDonald Student Essay Prize”, the statement said.

According to the Academy of Marketing, Christopher’s essay was selected after a blind review process, with the top three shortlisted papers being passed to Professor McDonald for the final decision.

The prize will be presented to Christopher at the Academy of Marketing conference dinner on July 7, 2011 in Liverpool by Professor McDonald, the sponsor.

Christopher said he built on the understanding developed during his course to develop his essay.

“We were discussing these issues during my classes, and so I decided to enter when I saw the competition and the essay title promoted on Glamlife, the student portal… I am extremely happy to have won this prize” the statement cited Christopher as saying.
