Work starts on GH¢50,000 fish market at Anomabo
The Member of Parliament (MP) for Mfantseman West, Mr Aquinas Tawiah Quansah, has cut the sod to commence work on a GH¢50,000 fish market for the people of Anomabo in the Mfantseman Municipality.
The project which was a campaign promise made by the MP is expected to be completed in two months.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Quansah, who is also a Deputy Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, urged Ghanaians to exercise patient for the government to fulfill the promises made during the 2008 electioneering campaign.
He said the government’s Better Ghana Agenda, was on course and assured the people that the government would not renege on its promises.
The MP outlined projects for the people of Anomabo, some of which had been completed and others under construction.
He said a sod would be cut for the construction of a cold storage facility to prevent post harvest loses of fish in the town, before the end of the month of June 2011.
Mr Quansah said a toilet facility would be constructed to replace the old one at the lorry park.
He said a three-storey dormitory for the girls at the Kwegyir Aggrey Senior High School was under construction to give the students a better place to sleep while a bus had been provided for the school to facilitate movement of students and staff.
The Deputy Minister hinted that under the Local Enterprises and Skills Development (LESDEP) programme, launched by President John Evans Atta Mills, credit facilities would be provided for fishermen to boost their businesses.
He urged the youth to take advantage of the LESDEP to acquire skills.
Mr Quansah announced plans to organize vacation classes for Junior High School students at vantage points.
He also announced that President Mills would cut the sod to mark the beginning of work on the Fisheries College at Buranamoa near Anomabo during his tour to the Central Region at the latter part of June.
The Deputy Minister appealed to the people along the coast to help the government to fight light fishing which was destroying marine resources.
