Mission House collapses on occupants

Disaster struck the Sunyani Central Church of the Pentecost mission house on Thursday, when the ground floor of the two-storey building caved in, following a heavy down pour.

Though there were no casualties, the damage was extensive, as part of the ground floor was washed away by the rains. and cost was estimated at GH¢10,000.00

Two guests, Deaconess Felicia Adu Darkwah and Priscilla Ayebea Davis, who had arrived from Wenchi and were sleeping in the room, miraculously escaped unhurt.

They told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Sunyani, that they were awakened at about 0043 hours when a mixture of sand and water splashed on them.

They quickly jumped off the bed only to realize that part of the room they were sleeping in had collapsed on the bed but they were unscathed.

The Reverend Charles Boamah Asante, Sunyani Central District pastor, who stays upstairs with his family, conducted the GNA round the house to inspect the extent of damage.

He said they were also awakened by the sound of the collapsing building.

The walls of the mission house also collapsed as a result of the rain.

The ground floor, which comprises a hall, two bed rooms, a store room, a kitchen and toilet and bath, and mainly used by guests was submerged in water.

The house was wrecked with havoc and the occupants, church leaders, church members and neighbours who came to the scene were gripped with shock at the miraculous escape of the two women from death or injury.

Mrs. Mary Asante, wife of the pastor, said they spent the rest of the night praising God for the miraculous rescue.
