Regional Minister urges sportsmen and women to maintain strict training regimen
The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Kwaku Agyemang-Mensah, has urged sportsmen and women to maintain strict training regimen to help improve on their performance o be better placed to participate in international games.
Dr Agyemang-Mensah who was interacting with the regional contingent of the upcoming National Unity Games scheduled for Accra from July 17-27, after he had donated a bull to motivate them, said that success in sports depends on discipline, commitment and determination.
The Minister therefore advised the athletes to stay away from all forms of unhealthy practices, which can be detrimental to their development and also retard the realization of their aspirations.
The Games which would be held on the theme “Uniting the People through Sports”, would see about 5,000 sportsmen and women compete for honours in badminton, soccer, athletics, martial arts, hockey, basketball, volleyball, swimming, table and lawn tennis, among others.
Ashanti Region’s contingent is made up of 308 sportsmen and women who are prepared to compete in almost all the disciplines.
The event would be used to select a national contingent to represent Ghana at the All Africa Games (AAG) scheduled for Maputo, Mozambique.
The Minister encouraged the team to remain focused and adhere to instructions from their technical handlers so as to make the Region excel and come up tops.
Mr Francis Kpesenu, the Regional Sports Development Officer (RSDO), thanked the Minster for the gesture and promised that the team would be given all the necessary support and encouragement to enhance their performance.
