Ejisu-Juaben gets GH¢160,000 job creation centre

A job creation centre estimated at GH¢162,644.00 and meant to give skills training to the youth has been inaugurated at Ekyem in the Ejisu-Juaben Municipality.

It would assist to train unemployed young people in jam and honey making, bakery and animal rearing among other trades.

The centre is being run by Self Help Development (SDP) Ghana, a local NGO, with support from its Netherlands partners.

Mr Kenneth Azeku Kansigi, Chairman of the NGO said the goal was to provide the youth with opportunities to become economically self-supporting.

He said already 106 people had benefitted from their training, adding that this had significantly changed their economic situation.

The NGO, which has been operating in the country for the past decade, is determined to serve as a reliable partner in the fight to bring down the growing unemployment among the youth, he added.

Mr Hans Erbrink, Chairman of SDP Netherlands, urged the people to take advantage of the centre to learn trades to earn a decent living.

He appealed to the instructors to show love and commitment to the job they were doing.

Mr Linus T. Bukari, Deputy Municipal Director of Education, asked the community to support and show keen interest in the management of the centre.

They should do everything to make sure that it was kept in good shape at all times.

Nana Kusi Berko, chief of the town, appealed to the NGO to give more space for the local people in its selection of trainees.

He expressed gratitude to The Reverend Father Joe Valentine, a Catholic Priest and Founder of the SDP, for the intervention.
