Mfantseman in sister-city relationship with UK’s Kent County Council

A three-member delegation from Kent County Council is in the Mfantseman Municipality to promote the Sister-City partnership between the two sides.

The Nkusukum Traditional Council, one of the four Traditional Councils in the Mfantseman Municipality organised a mini durbar at Saltpond Lower Town (Nankesedo) to welcome the delegation.

Welcoming the delegates, Nana Baa VII, Chief of Nankesedo and Nyimfahen of Nkusukum Traditional Council appealed to the visitors to adopt the fishing industry in the town and develop it to become like one of the modern fishing communities in the United Kingdom.

Nana Baa recalled a visit of the delegation to the Municipality sometime last year to finalise the Sister-City arrangement and said a lot of events had taken place since that visit.

Mr Henry Kweku Hayfron, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) who had been to Kent County Council twice with delegations, said 10 schools in the Municipality had entered into partnerships with schools in the Kent County Council to enable  them to share ideas on methodologies, social and cultural practices extended a warm welcome to the visitors.

He said through the relationship, a skills training centre was to be established at Ekumfi Essuehyia for the youth.

The MCE expressed satisfaction that anytime a delegation from Kent County Council came to the Municipality they came with presents for the youth and also taught new things.

Mrs Rachele Verrier, Head of International Development in Kent County Council and the leader of the delegation, commended Ghanaians for their hospitality.

She expressed delight that the Sister-City Partnership was on course and gave the assurance that they do everything possible to sustain the partnership.

Mrs Verrier thanked the Chiefs for the honour done them.

The other members of the delegation were Ms Becky Stomeham, Headteacher in Kent County and Tom Leader, a member of Communication Network.
