Abamkrom cocoa farmers want PBC shed renovated

Cocoa farmers at Abamkrom, a rural farming community in the Central Region on Monday urged the Produce Buying Company (PBC) Limited, a cocoa buying company in the country to renovate their shed in the town, without further delay.

Opanin Kojo Arhin, a spokesperson for the farmers, wondered why a state building should be allowed to go to waste.

He said the Purchasing Clerk’s residential quarters was in a deplorable state, which compelled the clerk to rent a room in the town, adding that failure to renovate the society’s shed was a disgrace not only to the PBC authorities but also the entire cocoa industry.

The spokesperson noted that the shed had its roof ripped off causing it to leak, a situation that was not conducive for the society’s effective operation. He, therefore, urged the PBC authorities to urgently repair the building before it collapsed.

When contacted, Mr James Kobina Annan, the Purchasing Clerk, said the society’s shed was ripped off by a rainstorm two-and-a-half years ago, and that officials from the Koforidua Office of the company had carried out an inspection on the structure.

He affirmed that he was not residing in the official quarters provided for him because the place had become dilapidated.
