Catholic Bishop of Navrongo Bolgatanga calls for peace

The Most Rev Alfred Agyenta, the Bishop of Navrongo Bolgatanga Catholic Diocese, said on Wednesday that it was important to foster peace in homes and in churches.

This, he said, would help to maintain peace in the country and promote development.

Most Rev Agyenta said this when he paid a courtesy call on the Upper East Regional Minister, Mr Mark Woyongo, in Bolgatanga.

He expressed gratitude to the Minister for the sustained partnership that exists between the Catholic Church and the Regional Coordinating Council.

Most Rev Agyenta said his election to the status of a Bishop was a blessing to the diocese he found it a challenge to ensure peace and urged the Catholic congregation to support him in prayer and deed.

Mr Woyongo said the Catholic Church played an important role in complementing the efforts of the government morally and socially, adding that the benefits people derived from the Church’s programmes on health and related services were evidences of the partnership.

He spoke about the poverty situation in the region and appealed from all sectors strive to improve the situation.

Mr woyongo said he was not happy about developments in the Catholic Church brought about by factions and ethnicism and appealed to the Bishop to work towards bringing peace and unity in the diocese.
