FAO launches new online consultation on food security and nutrition
The Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) has launched an online consultation forum for the general public on food security and nutrition July 28, 2011.
The FAO says the purpose of the consultation is to gather inputs for the preparation of the Global Strategic Framework for Food Security and Nutrition (GSF), a document being developed to improve coordination and support global, regional and country-led actions to prevent future food crises, eliminate hunger and ensure food security and nutrition for all.
“The Committee on World Food Security (CFS) has opened the discussion to the general public, providing a significant opportunity for all stakeholders around the world to participate in the global policy debate and ultimately contribute to this important framework,” said the UN agency on its website.
This will influence food security and nutrition governance, according to the FAO.
In a related development, the FAO has launched a $1 million fund for livestock biodiversity management. The fund which is in a form of a grant is designed to help developing countries conserve and sustainably use their livestock breeds.
Germany, Norway and Switzerland are the contributors to the fund.
