Gonjaland Youth Association calls for tarring of Fulfulso-Sawla road

The Gonjaland Youth Association (GYA) has reiterated its call on the government to ensure the tarring of the Fulfuso-Sawla road.

The Association said it has noted with disappointment that during the year, the government had on separate platforms promised to cut the sod for the construction of the Fulfulso-Sawla road at different dates, March 15 and June 25, but all these dates have been dishonoured.

The Association made the call in a press statement signed by its General Secretary, Mr Dramani Dari.

The Association also mentioned the Tamale-Salaga-Kpandai road, the Domeabra-Mpaha road, Kasawugu-Tuluwe, Bunsunu-Daboya-Mankarigu roads and the Laribanga-Bawena, Laribanga-Mole roads as deplorable roads that had been neglected over the years and needed the urgent attention of government.

The Association said the entire Gonjaland was appalled by the lackadaisical attitude of the government in treating the issue of the Fulfulso-Sawla road and warned that: “If by December, 2011, we do not see anything concrete happening on this issue we will be forced to advice our people not to give audience to political parties to campaign in Gonjaland”.

Mr Dari said the Association appreciated efforts being made by the government towards the creation of a new region out of the present Northern region but was worried about the slow pace of the process and appealed to the government to immediately set up the technical committee to facilitate the process.

The Association said that the creation of the new region would not only ensure grass roots participation in governance but also bring about equity distribution of national resources and balanced development in the whole of the northern region.

It’s sad for a non partisan association to begin to issue statements and threats to disban a political party from having access to its people on the basis of percieved unfulfilled developmental projects eventhough its a fiasco and nonthreat that will see the light of day. The question i like to post is;where was the association when the previous gov’t deceived our chiefs by cutting sod to construct the said road? I urge the leadership of the assocition to make contacts and also vet or read through thier statements before they are issued. Eventhough it could be the mouthpiece of the good people of GONJALAND your choice of words in my view is unwarranted and needless. I implore the GLYA to rather be persuasive and appealing than issuing threats which does not urgar well for the GLYA reputation. GLYA is a non partisan platform and must not be allowed to be issuing statements that drag its name into the mud. Its a bad and uninformed premised.

Mr. Abu why are you sad, nothing like sadness, for the passed we have been sober over the pass Government. So, other tribes had done more than that. Abu do not forget that GLYA concern is about development. We should stop making reference to the passed Government and don’t forget that they are also NDC members. Remember that for politician if you sale yourselves cheap they would buy you as the price demands. I will be sorry if you have in-mind that we are trying to sabotage the Government.

N/B: Every patriotic Gonja should put politics aside and support National Youth of Gonjaland up for better. Lets be vigilant.

i am sad that my learned colleague did not see that the very behavior that the passed govt exhibited during their tenure is the same behavior this current govt is pursuing, after all what?our predecessors did not if we also don’t nothing will happen.
let call for general consensus and make a very categorical statement regarding the current govt attitude towards our chiefs and developmental issues and avoid politics and drag our fortunes in to something bright and forward giving.
i want to make an observation here. is Abu saying that we shouldn’t criticize the govt based on the promises made before during and after the elections. i quite remember during the final funeral rites of the late yagbonwura bawa doshi of blessed memory , the vice president told the whole world that by the end of their first term the sawla- fufulso road will be tarred.well he received applause for that BUT am not sure whether he will still gather such applause again in the coming election.
