GNAT upgrades skills of teachers

More than 170 teachers and educational administrators in the Central Region have been given in-service training in teaching methods and leadership skills to expose them to modern trends of teaching.

The week long workshop organized jointly by the Canadian Teachers Federation and the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) was aimed at improving the instructive skills of teachers in the Central Region.

The teachers were taken through teaching Mathematics, English, Integrated Science and French from the primary to Senior High School.

Speaking at the closing ceremony Mrs. Prisca Ninwienah, an Evaluation Officer of the workshop, said workshops carried out for teachers had impacted greatly on them.

Mr. John Nyoagbe, Deputy General Secretary of GNAT, said such workshops were laudable and therefore more mechanisms should be put in place to help improve and upgrade teachers.

He called for the early migration of teachers onto the single spine salary structure and for the government to ensure that all concerns on that issue were adequately addressed.

Mr Nyoagbe said he hoped the government would continue to prioritize education by providing the required educational infrastructure and learning resources including Information Communication Technology (ICT).
