Kwahu Assembly donates GH¢15,000 worth canoe, outboard motor to four communities
The Kwahu East District Assembly has donated a 60-seater canoe, an outboard motor and a quantity of live jackets, worth GH¢15,000, to the Kwahu Tafo, Bokuruwa, Nteso and Kotoso Area Council.
The gesture was meant to ferry school children and market women from neighbouring villages along and beyond the Afram Lake to school and to the market at Kotoso.
Presenting the items, the District Chief Executive for the area, Mr Samuel Asamoah, said it was not the intention of the assembly to take over the lake transportation business from the local people but to supplement their efforts to ensure safe transportation on the lake.
He said the assembly intends reducing boat accidents on the Afram Lake, which mostly affected women and children.
He advised the Area Council to form a management committee with representative from all the communities forming the Council, to ensure the effective operation of the canoe to generate revenue for development projects in their respective communities.
Mr Asamoah advised them to ensure efficient operation of the canoe to ensure the safety of the people, mostly children and market women, who use it.
The chief of Kotoso, Nana Ampoma Gyebi II, thanked the assembly for the gesture.
