Ghana signs 39 international investment agreements with other economies – UN

Ghana has signed 39 different international investment agreements (IIA) with other economies, according to the 2011 World Investment Report (WIR).

The report, prepared by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), notes that these IIAs include bilateral investment treaties (BIT), double taxation treaties (DTTs) as well as other regional integration organization agreements.

Even though the report did not mention the countries which Ghana has the agreements with, it indicated that 26 of the agreements were BITs, eight were DTTs and the remaining five were agreements concluded by economies as members of a regional integration organization, all totaling 39 as at the May 31, 2011.

UNCTAD says “This includes not only agreements that are signed and entered into force, but also agreements where negotiations are only concluded.”
