Seven injured as two families fight over container placement

The dispute between two families at Damweo section of the Bolgatanga over the erecting of a container that threatened peace in the township during the weekend is being resolved.

The son of Alhaji Yakubu Iddriss, a resident of Damweo, attempted to erect a container in front of his house but was met with violent resistance by another family that claimed ownership of the land.

Consequently, seven people were injured, with one person on admission at the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital, while the others were treated and discharged.

According to a press release signed by Mr Abdul-Khassim Medjida, Public Relations Officer of the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC), a meeting was quickly organized involving the police, the two disputants, the Tindana, the Regional Chief Imam and other opinion leaders in the area.

The Regional Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Bright Oduro, said the Police had asked the opinion leaders to amicably resolve the misunderstanding and report back to his office.

They should particularly take into account the damage on the said container, injuries suffered by the seven people and also consider awarding costs and damages.

The release said the RCC condemned the violence and appealed to the two parties to resolve their differences.

It assured the general public to go about their normal businesses as the situation was under control, and that the problem should not be interpreted as a dispute between Frafras and Dagombas as earlier speculated.
