Farmers grateful to government for fertilizer subsidy
Many farmers in the Eastern Region have expressed happiness and gratitude to the government for fulfilling its promise of subsidizing the price of fertilizer this year.
In June the price of fertilizer was reduced from GH¢ 60.00 to GH¢ 30.00.
The farmers said agriculture, being the backbone of the economy, needed the government’s support in order to enhance production “and we are grateful that this promise has been fulfilled.”
Farmers in the region hitherto complained about the high cost of fertilizer and this had effect on their production.
This came out in a survey conducted by the Ghana News Agency among some farmers and agricultural input sellers in some parts of the region.
The farmers however complained that even though foods are now more on the market, inadequate storage facilities is making them to rot in the farms.
Mr. Zormelo Christian, a tomatoes farmer in Fanteakwa, appealed to the government to provide farmers with storage and processing facilities.
