MP for Builsa North donates medical equipment to hospital
The Member of Parliament (MP) for Builsa North, Mr Timothy Awintire on Thursday presented medical equipment to the Sandema Hospital.
The items included beds, beds stands, mattresses, electronic and manual wheel chairs, plastic chairs, medicated glasses, towels for surgery, gloves, bathroom tools, walkers and toiletries.
Mr Awintire said he was touched by the lack of certain health equipment at the Sandema Hospital and its health posts and that prompted him to look for support from the Northern Ghana Association of Scandinavia based in Denmark.
He said he facilitated the process through the Direct Assistance Network of Ghana Empowering by Education, an NGO which made it possible for the items to arrive in Ghana.
Some of the equipment would be distributed to the Doninga, Kanjaga and Fumbisi Health facilities.
He said he lobbied to get $100,000 from the Japanese Government to provide water system to the Chuchuliga community and its surroundings and mentioned the Senansi and Kanjaga health centres as some of the projects he undertook through his common share of the National Health Scheme.
Mr Awintire said he also supported the building of 11 schools in the constituency including a Kindergarten through the Ghana Education Trust Fund.
“Through my MP Common Fund I have sponsored about 350 students in the Constituency to go to tertiary and second cycle institutions,” he said.
The Medical Superintendent of the Sandema hospital, Dr James Sarkodie, thanked the MP and the donors and appealed to appealed to others to support health facilities in the area.
The Chairman of the Northern Ghana Association of Scandinavia, Mr Samuel Ansobah, said the donation was made possible through an appeal made to the Denmark government.
Dr Clement Abas Apaak, Executive Director of Direct Assistance Network of Ghana Empowering by Education, said his outfit had received computers from the Northern Ghana Association of Scandinavia to be distributed to schools in the area.
