Kandin launches Education Endowment Fund
The chiefs and people of Kandin in the Zabzugu/Tatale District have raised GH¢4,350.00 for the Kandin Education Fund to sponsor needy but brilliant students in the area.
So far two students have been sponsored for nursing training from the fund.
The chief of the area, Obore Chamamme Tanob, said this in an address read for him at a durbar to mark the Kandin Yam Festival.
He said GH¢2000.00 was realized in the last year’s festival and this year GH¢2,350.00 was realized.
“This is why the theme of festival ‘Raising the falling standard of education in Kandin for development’ is appropriate” the chief said.
Obore Chamamme Tanob added his voice to the appeal made to the government to decouple Zabzugu/Tatale District into two separate districts to fasten development in the area.
He commended the government for the distribution of development project all over the country including their district.
The Deputy Northern Regional Minister, Mr. Sam Nasamu Asabigi, said in an address read on his behalf that the main road from Yendi through Zabzugu and Tatale to Nachemba border would soon be tackled.
The Zabzugu/Tatale District Chief Executive, Mr. Umar Abdul Wahab, said the district had benefited from projects in health, education, water and sanitation and roads sectors.
He said the government had expanded the Ghana Schools Feeding Programme to cover four more schools in the district.
Mr. Umar announced that few years ago the district used to occupy the unenviable top position on guinea worm league table but now no guinea worm has been recorded due to intensification of efforts in the water and sanitation.
The Member of Parliament for Ahafo Ano South, Mr. Stephen Balado Manu who is a citizen of Tatale, appealed to parents to take education very serious and send their children to school.
