180 children complete Table Tennis clinic
The Ghana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) has completed a three week tennis clinic for children under-16, which forms part of efforts to develop the game at the grassroots level.
The training, which had 180 children participating and was under the sponsorship of Stanbic Bank Ghana Limited, Goil Ghana Limited, Coca Cola Company, took the participants through the basics of the sport.
The participants were taken through basics skills of handling of the bat, proper position by the table, eye and hand coordination and forehand and backhand techniques by members of the technical team of the GTTA and past tennis players.
Richmond Quarcoo, President of the GTTA said his outfit has identified very good and talented players who will be groomed and provided the opportunity to become national stars.
He said the selected players will be handled by the technical men of GTTA who will mentor them as they have the potential for becoming future national and international stars.
Quarcoo noted that parents of the selected players will be notified on the plans of the Association in a bid to have effective management of the players.
Worlanyo Agrah, Chief Executive Officer of the National Sports Authority, (NSA) commended the management of GTTA for embarking on the exercise since it will increase the talent stock of the nation in table tennis.
He urged the GTTA to spread the exercise to other parts of the country since there are more talented players in the hinterlands.
