Rotary International launches ‘Poems for Peace’ competition for Africa

The Rotaract and Interact clubs, two wings of Rotary International have launched a peace initiative for Africa, known as the ‘Poems for Peace’, an Africa-wide poetry competition.

Poems for Peace, a peace-promotion project of Rotaract and Interact for Peace in Africa (RIPA), is to be held annually in District 9100 of Rotary in countries such as Ghana, Benin, Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, Cote d’Ivoire, Gambia, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Niger, Senegal, Sierra Leone, and Togo.

According to RIPA, the poems should be on the Rotary theme of the year 2011-2012 “Reach Within to Embrace Humanity.”

Entries will be received in two categories: 12 – 17 years (Interact) and 18 – 30 years (Rotaract), from interested persons across Africa with expectations that poems are to bear recommendations on how young people can contribute to peace on the continent.

Deadline for the submission of poetry is before 23:59 Hours (GMT) February 29, 2012 through the competition’s website.
