Teacher trainees not happy about deductions
The Teacher Trainees Association of Ghana (TTAG), has appealed to the government to, as a matter of urgency, investigate deductions made from the allowances of teacher trainees by the principals.
According to TTAG, the GH¢250 allowance that was given to all teacher trainees never reached them because the principals of the schools made a lot of deductions from the allowance leaving them with nothing.
The TTAG revealed that sometimes even monies were deducted from their allowances for weeding of compound, which were done by labourers on Ghana Education Service (GES) payroll.
Mr Cecil Sackitey, President of the Eastern-Greater Accra branch of the TTAG, made the appeal through the Ghana News Agency at the annual delegates congress held at Somanya in the Yillo Krobo District on Monday.
He alleged that sometimes books, for which moneys have been deducted from their allowances, never got to them.
Mr Sackitey said feeding fees were the only deduction permitted by the schools from their allowances.
He said sometimes the only money left for trainees at the bank was GH¢20.00 out of the GHC250.00 paid by government.
Mr Michael Nsowah, former Director General of the GES, who is the patron of the TTAG, urged the trainees to exhibit good practices wherever they were posted to teach.
He advised them to eschew laziness and all forms of practices that were inimical to teaching and the new educational reforms.
