Former President Kufuor leaves Accra for Paris to help set agenda for G20 meeting

Former President John Agyekum Kufuor left Accra on Tuesday night to attend two major conferences in Europe.

The first from September 7-9 in Paris, France, as part of the Club of Madrid’s Eight-Member Preparatory Team to help set the agenda for G20 meeting in France later in the year.

Former President Kufuor will join Former Prime Minister of the Netherlands Wim Kok, Former Prime Minister of Canada, Kim Campbell, Former President of Mali Alpha Oumar Konare as well as Lionel Jospin of France and Hong Koo Lee of the Republic of Korea.

A statement issued in Accra on Wednesday by Mr Frank Agyekum, Spokesperson, Office of Former President Kufuor, said the preparatory meeting was being organised with the French Government.

It said the meeting would end on September 9 after which the former world leaders would present a position agenda to French President Nicolas Sarkozy.

The statement said from Paris, former President Kufuor would travel to Madrid, Spain, for a conference by the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, the Club of Madrid and the Organisation of Economic Cooperation and Development on “An Opportunity for Developing Country Leadership: the Busan High Level Forum.”

It said the objective of the meeting would be to pursue broad support for a political declaration for the High Level Conference IV on Aid Effectiveness to be held in Busan, Republic of Korea in December 2011.

He returns to Accra on September 13.
