Court fines driver GH¢540 for using expired documents
The Accra Motor Court at the weekend fined Ama Krenchi Agbasu, GH¢540 for failing to renew her Driving licence, Road Worthy Certificate and Insurance Cover of her vehicle.
She was also charged for insulting officials of Madina Police Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU).
Agbasu who pleaded guilty was asked to pay the fine or in default serve 12 months imprisonment.
Police Inspector I. Abudu told the court presided over by Mrs Felicia Gandedzi that at about 1300 hours this month, Agbasu was driving her vehicle at Ritz Junction in Accra when she was stopped by the police.
The police personnel noticed that the vehicle had no valid documents.
Agbasu also prevented the police to verify whether she possessed a fire extinguisher and a triangle and was also was reluctant to report at the Madina Police Station and was rude towards the personnel.
The police, however, noticed that her driving licence had expired since June 11, 2011.
In a related development Assistant Superintendent of Police Charles Ahiamale, Madina Police MTTU Commander in an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Accra, appealed to drivers to be courteous towards the police, warning that the recalcitrant ones would be arrested and arraigned.
He said bench warrants have been issued from the Madina District Magistrate Court and Accra Motor Court for seven defaulting drivers who failed to turn up at the two courts for motor offences.
