Public Service Workers Union to focus on increasing productivity
Mr Richard Amparbeng, the Deputy General Secretary of the Public Service Workers Union (PSWU), has appealed to public sector workers to generate employment in the sector.
Speaking at the Volta Regional Delegates Conference of the Union in Ho he said the public sector offered the most reliable way of creating more jobs because the private sector had failed to do so following the divesture of many public sector organizations to that sector.
Mr Amparbeng said the private sector presided over the erosion of jobs through the lay-off of many workers to secure profits.
He said public sector workers risked losing their jobs to the large army of skilled job seekers who might offer to work in the sector for half the salaries being paid in the sector.
He said it was no longer prudent for public sector workers to resort to agitations but find ways to improve productivity as a way of ensuring job security.
Mr Amparbeng said the PSWU has therefore chosen the theme “Enhancing Public Sector Productivity for accelerated socio-economic development; the role of the Union as focus of its national delegates’ conference this year.
