Former Minister of Trade Ashiboe-Mensah passes on

The death is reported of Mr Kofi Ashiboe-Mensah, 73, an Economist and former Minister of Trade on Wednesday, September 21.

A statement issued in Accra on Monday by Akyaaba Addai-Sebo on behalf of the family said the deceased would be buried at his home town Aflao in the Volta Region and final funeral arrangements announced later.

It said Mr Ashiboe-Mensah dedicated his life to the course of equal opportunity and accelerated development in Ghana and Africa throughout his adult and professional life.

Mr Ashiboe-Mensah worked for the Ministry of Finance, Capital Investment Board (now Ghana Investment Centre) and in private capacity as an economic and technical consultant.

In his last years, he worked as a consultant to the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development on Revenue Improvement Action Plan for District Assemblies and the Urban Sanitation Project.

Mr Ashiboe-Mensah provided consultancy service to the government of Seychelles to help improve the country’s fishing industry.

He was multi-talented and a fashion designer who once designed for and clothed the Black Stars football team.

Mr Ashiboe-Mensah designed and presented a special garment for former Namibian President Sam Nujoma who was then leader of the Liberation Movement, South-West Africa People’s Organisation (SWAPO).

He was a leading member of the defunct Pan-African Youth Movement Organisation (PANYMO).
