EB-Accion Savings & Loans Ghana wins Best Microfinance award at 2011 African Banker Awards
Ghanaian company, EB-Accion Savings & Loans Company, has been adjudged the best “Microfinance Institution/Project of the Year” at the 2011 African Banker Awards which was held September 23, 2011 in Washington DC.
EB-Accion was the only Ghanaian financial institution that won an award during the ceremony which coincided with the International Monetary Fund/World Bank annual meeting.
Established in 2006, EB-ACCION is jointly owned by ECOBANK Ghana (70% shares) and ACCION (30% shares) through its investment subsidiary, ACCION Investments.
At the same event, Standard Bank Group of South Africa was named African Bank of the Year with Mr. James Mwangi, Managing Director & CEO of Kenya’s Equity Bank awarded the African Banker of the Year.
In all, 13 individuals and companies were given awards.
Organised by the African Banker Magazine and IC Events, the Awards, which brought together about 300 key industry players and top government officials from Africa and around the world, celebrates excellence and best practices in African banking.
