No fire tender at Agona West and East District for nine months

Mr Emmanuel Kweku Tetteh, Agona West Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) on Thursday said the assembly was in the process of taking delivery of a Fire tender after being without one for nine months.

The tender, currently being kept at Headquarters of the Ministry of the Interior, in Accra, was among a number of Fire tenders and other firefighting equipment recently imported by the government to augment equipment stock of the Fire Service.

The MCE said this at an Assembly meeting at Agona Swedru in an answer to concerns raised by members of the Assembly on the absence of a fire tender at the Agona Swedru Fire Station.

According to the members, the Agona Swedru Fire Station serves the Agona West and East, Gomoa East and some part of Awutu Senya District.

The Assembly members said a fire outbreak in April this year at the Palace of Swedruhene, gutted everything because there was no fire tender to handle the situation.

According to them, before fire personnel from Winneba and Mankessim got to scene, the fire had ravaged the building resulting in the stoning of the officers by a mob.

They therefore appealed to the Ministry of the Interior to expedite action to release the tender to the station.

On security, the MCE said the National and Regional Security operators have helped to reduce arm robbery cases and other crimes.

Mr Thomas Kwesi Asante, former Presiding Member and Assembly man for Nsawam/Tsentsimhwe Electoral Area, expressed concern about the lack of disclosure of the true state of the assembly’s finances.

He said the members should be able to known how much revenue the assembly targeted to collect this year or how much it has so far collected.
