Seychelles referee Maillet to handle Sudan – Ghana CAN qualifier
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) have appointed experienced referee Eddy Maillet from Seychelles to handle this weekend’s 2012 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier between Sudan’s Desert Hawks and Ghana’s Black Stars in Khartoum.
Maillet, 44, and the Referees’ Coordinator for the Seychelles Football Federation will direct affairs from the middle during the crucial Group I decider.
Referee Maillet will be assisted on the lines by compatriots Damoo Jason and Underwood Percy Walter with Labrosse Jean-Claude also of Seychelles acting as the fourth official.
Information gathered by GNA Sports from CAF Secretariat indicates that the Seychellois has carved a niche for himself as one of finest referees on the continent, since attaining his international badge in 2001.
Referee Maillet has officiated series of high profile matches and was amongst the three African referees selected for the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.
He recently handled the CAF Champions League encounter between Coton Sport (Cameroon) and Raja Casablanca (Morocco) in Garoua, Northern Cameroon three weeks ago.
For matches involving Ghana, Maillet once officiated in the Ghana versus Burkina Faso at the group phase encounter at the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations in Angola.
He was also at the middle during the 2010 World Cup/CAN qualifier against Libya in Kumasi which the Stars won 3-0 and also handled the opening match of the CAN 2008 involving the Black Stars and their Guinea counterparts.
Suleiman Hassan Weberi of Djibouti will be the Match Commissioner.
