Ghana to host Africa Para-Cycling Championship
The Union Cycling International (UCI) has given Ghana the right to host the 4th UCI Africa Para-Cycling Championship, fixed for December 10-11, 2011.
The championship, would feature four events – Hand Cycling (H-CLASS), Blind Visual (BV), Tri-Cycle and Cycling (C-CLASS), covering a period of two days, with countries such as Niger, South Africa, Burkina Faso, Kenya and Togo participating.
According to information gathered by the GNA Sports, the championship is expected to promote Para-cycling in Ghana and enhanced the image of the country on the international scene.
It would also promote the development of Para-cycling in the country as well as making preparations for the upcoming 2012 Olympic Games in London.
In view of this a Local Organising Committee (LOC) would be formed by the Ghana Cycling Association (GCA) to see to the organization of the event.
The committee would include, a representative from the Office of the President, National Security, Customs Division – Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Information, Ghana Immigration Service, Ghana Police, MTTU, Ghana News Agency and the Ghana Armed Forces.
It would also include representatives from the National Paralympic Committee, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, National Council on Persons with Disability, the Accra Metropolitan Assembly, the Ministry of Youth and Sports and a representative from Disability Options- an NGO that caters for disables based in Accra, Ghana.
