National Media Commission to open four regional offices before 2012 General Election

The National Media Commission (NMC) is to open four regional offices before the 2012 General Election, Mr Kabral Blay-Amihere, Chairman of the Commission   said in Ho on Thursday.

“We know how crucial the 2012 elections are and think we have to decentralize in time to ensure that the media play their role professionally,” he said.

Mr Blay-Amihere who was in Ho on a working visit with Mr Alex Bannerman, Deputy Executive Secretary of the Commission, said the offices will be in Volta, Northern, Ashanti and Western regions.

Mr Blay-Amihere said the move was to make the presence of the Commission felt in the regions, and  he commended media practitioners in the Volta Region for their professionalism.

He   lauded the Regional branch of the Ghana Journalists Association for establishing a secretariat and said “It is not easy to get an office for GJA. I commend the executives for the achievement”.

Mr Blay-Amihere called on the Regional GJA to ensure that practitioners abide by the Association’s code of ethics and organize regular workshops and seminars for practitioners to keep them abreast with professional developments.

Mr Timothy Dzamboe, Volta Regional Editor of the Daily Graphic, hoped the presence of the NMC in the region would enhance professionalism among journalists.
