Daboase water facility collapses, supply to Sekondi-Takoradi reduces
The volume of water supply to the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis has been reduced by 50 percent due to the collapse of the operational facility at the Daboase Water Works in the Western Region.
Mr Daniel G. Muomaalah, Western Regional General Manager of the Ghana Water Company (GWC), told reporters at Takoradi on Friday that the inner perimeter of the “Clarifier” that supplied the water collapsed on Tuesday night.
As a result, a second “Clarifier” is being used to supply water to consumers, who would receive a daily production of 18,000-meter cube representing 50 percent instead of a daily full water production of 37,000-meter cube.
Mr Muomaalah said a contractor was working on the collapsed facility which was installed 43 years ago, and would take six to eight weeks to complete.
He explained that on completion of the project it would take 28 days for the inner perimeter of the facility to “Cure”, or dry up, before it would be used.
Mr Muomaalah appealed to water consumers to be patient with the corporation while it worked to repair it and advised residents to store more water saying that water would be rationed to ensure that no one was left out
