Ghana’s state-owned media: Graphic, GBC get new Heads
The National Media Commission (NMC) has appointed Mr Kenneth Ashigbey as the Managing Director of Graphic Communications Group Limited for an initial term of four years.
The statement issued in Accra by Mr Alexander Bannerman, Deputy Executive Secretary of the NMC, also said Mr Berfi Afari Apenteng has also been appointed the Director-General of Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) for one year.
It said both appointments would take effect from Tuesday, November 1, 2011.
Mr Kenneth Ashigbey, an Engineer and Communications Expert, is a product of St Augustine’s College and the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, where he graduated in Electrical/Electronic Engineering and holds a Masters degree in Business Administration.
He was the General Manager of Joy FM from 2003-2006; Managing Director of Optimum Media Prime from 2007-2010 and is currently the Chief Operating Officer of Multimedia Group Limited (MULTI TV).
Mr Ashigbey, who is a council member of the Ghana Independent Broadcasters Association, is married with children.
The statement said the new Director General of GBC, Mr Apenteng, is a Media and Communications Consultant, who is a product of the Mfantsipim School and the University of Ghana where he did both his undergraduate and graduate studies.
He holds an Executive MBA from the University of Ghana Business School and is also a Barrister at Law.
Mr Apenteng is a Knight Fellow at the University of Stanford, USA, and was once a Director of Radio and Deputy Director of Television at the GBC; General Manager of TV3 Network Limited, Managing Director of Graphic Communications Group Limited as well as Managing Director of TV Africa (part time).
He is also married with children.
